I know some people write to music and others don't. Some people have specific playlists, or they only listen to a certain type of music.
What's your preference? Do you write with or without music?
If you write with music, share some of your best songs and artists.

If you write with music, share some of your best songs and artists. When I wrote 'The Witch's Heart' I listened to Vivaldi steady-go. And Sibelius. The main character (Sherlock) was a University student, and he was involved in leading an orchestra at his Uni (Cambridge). But, other than that, if I'm writing, there's some kind of music on.

I can only write with very soft, not-very-structured music. Devin Townsend's Ghost has been a stable in my writing for the past few years. Most of the time, though, I need silence. There's too much happening in my head. Music distracts me.

I can't listen to music at all when I'm writing. I'll listen to music before I start writing, but it's too much of a distraction for me.

I'm pretty flexible. Sometimes I write in silence. Sometimes I write to instrumentals, and sometimes I write to music. I love rock and I'm a big fan of classic rock, but I'll listen to pretty much anything. If I like it I'll listen to it more than once LOL.
My favorites lately have been Mumford and Sons, Imagine Dragons, Glass Tiger and Queen.

I had no idea Nightcore existed until after this. And now I have no idea what to think of it.

Some of it is really good...some of it is blasphemous and horrible. There's a male version of Miley Cyrus' song "Wrecking Ball" which I actually really like. Which is funny, because I never heard her sing it. hahaha.

Divorced from the video, it's actually a pretty good song, and she performs it well. It's very emotional. There's a directors cut of the video where it's just a close-up of her face for the whole thing, and that's also strangely affecting.

For me, it varies. Sometimes I have to have complete silence (very difficult when I have 3 roommates who are constantly having debates in the living room) and others I need to listen to something. I've found when I need to listen to music it can't be lyrical. I start singing along to the words and end up writing out partial lyrics in my work or just getting completely sidetracked. So, commonly, I find myself listening to soundtrack music. It's familiar but I can't sing to it haha

He's all about big, booming stuff -- Conan soundtrack, the Matrix, et cetera -- so it would sound like Wagner was having electronica fits whenever he was working. Downstairs to him I'd pop in headphones and listen to enya. I do that too, btw, but for me it's television. If the TV is on then words from whatever's playing just wind up knitting into my attention and pouring out on the screen. Which is annoying.

Oh my goodness. If the T.V. is on... nothing gets done. Like right now. I am supposed to be writing my paper but The Voice is about to be on and I must watch it. haha

The Voice has Shakira. If she's on, I must watch Shakira, on account of being a massive Shaki fan. Lol! I feel for you! Rn, News is on and it's bloody distracting. On top of that, while I do have ideas circulating, I need to paint or I will end up head+desk tomorrow. But, seeing as TV is on all the time where I live, I had to adapt to turning music into white noise in order to write.
