Hi everyone
I'm Gem and I was directed here from tumblr (my blog is booksarebrainfood). I'm 20 and I'm from England. I'm currently at university studying English Lit and Creative Writing and I consider myself a novice writer.
I've always been crazy about books and as a kid I enjoyed making up my own stories, but I only really started writing properly in the past few years.
I'm obsessed with YA fiction, particularly fantasy, sci-fi and dystopian stuff. This is mainly what I tend to write, but sometimes I surprise myself with random ideas for children's or adult fiction.
Anyway... Nice to meet you all! I'm excited to see what happens with this forum!

Welcome!
I'm majoring in English lit, too. I wanted creative writing, but only campus students can do a creative writing degree, and since I'm online, I can't.
I love YA fiction. I feel like it's what I'm always going to write and mostly read.

Thanks!
Oh, that's disappointing. I wonder why they don't allow that.
I agree. Even though I enjoy other stuff, I think I'll always keep going back to YA books.

Hi there, Gem,
Nice to have you here. I read a bit of everything, including a ton of YA...I also write a bit of everything, though my focus lately has been poetry.

Hello from across the pond. Got any particular books or authors you're loving at the moment?

Thanks Mariah, happy to be here! Hello there, dabs I'm loving Amanda Hocking at the moment. I read her Trylle Trilogy over Christmas break and I've just started reading 'Wake', the first of the Watersong Series. And hi bunni! Thank you. My name's actually Gemma but everyone just calls me Gem. Good luck with getting copyright for your book!

You can't spell "Chemistry" without "I cry."

Hi Gem! Nice to meet you . I love ya fantasy too! I don't remember the last time I read a fantasy at all. Which is terrible, really. Wait. Unless you count Urban Fantasy. If you do, I've got a small tower over here. XD

If you do, I've got a small tower over here. XD You should read Michael J. Sullivan. The Crown Tower The Rose and The Thorn Theft of Swords Rise of Empire Heir of Novron Totally awesome. Though I have yet to read #1 and#2 as they are prequels and came out after the other three...You can read the other three first...but then you'll already know what happens in 1 adn 2

Right now I'm up to my eyes in re-reading Lili St. Crow's Strange Angels series. It's underrated that series. OH! And not exactly Urban Fantasy, but I can't not recommend it: Scott Westerfeld's Leviathan series. I started The Academy series, got through Introductions (because the character's home situation is really believable) but it is a bit strange in that it seems to reify certain 'rules for girls'. It's by C. L. Stone.
