Hello (:
Me again. Hope you can find this useful (:
Earthquakes at Night
An earthquake at night feels completely different, if you are at home, sleeping, you might wake up a few seconds before. Some people wake up minutes before. The noise is the one that will always alert you at night. Again, will be like a big truck but even more annoying. You’ll feel vibrations in your ears, before any wave hit the surface. What many people do is to sit down in their beds, turn on the light, and put some shoes, always wear shoes, don’t make the same mistake I did. If you sleep with the door close, go open it and stay under the lintel. Blackouts are common, but don’t move from where you are. Things will fall and if you move, something might hit you and you might step on some glass (it hurts like hell the next day). Even if there’s no light, when the glass hit the floor it will sparkle. If you look outside, the sky will be different; you might see lightning (1)(2).
There is a huge difference between day and night. As I said it in the last post, during daylight you will see what is happening, but at night your eyes will only see darkness with a few flashes of light. Your body and your ears will be your only connection with the earthquake.
Houses v/s Buildings
If you live in a house, you’ll feel the earthquake in a different way as you’d do if you live in a building. Houses usually don’t fall, but if it’s old and made of adobe, there’s a chance it will crack and fall. Concrete also cracks, wood will only sound. Now cracks will start from the ground to the ceiling, except if they are originated in the ceiling. If you live in a building and it is anti seismic, it will swing and the higher you are, the more it will swing. If it isn’t anti seismic, it will crack. Or worse (3) (4). The windows will explode, literally; so will some pipes, if they are water pipes you’ll get wet if they are gas pipes, you better don’t use matches o a light. If you live in a high building and there are birds outside, what you’ll see is shocking. Birds crash against the buildings (it’s because changes in the earth magnetism). This has nothing to do with some kind of sense animals have.
