Hello. I am 24, Russian immigrant to USA, and work as a journalist for Reuters INA.
I have recently finished the body of the 1st draft of my first novel, the working title for which is "Kastor and Pollux"
It is "New Adult" fiction (the target audience is people ages 18-26). While it takes elements from many genres such as science fiction, it can best be characterized as being post-Soviet spy fiction + Action + Slavic Noir
The story begins in 1989, jumps ahead to 2008 where several chapters are spent, before breaking out in the late winter of 2013. Over half of the characters are Russian, and the book focuses mainly on and in the Federation, although there chapters in East Germany, the Republic of Georgia, Estonia, Sweden, and Denmark, before reaching its conclusion in Nevada. It follows the life of Dmitriy Zakhayev, following the mysterious circumstances surrounding his birth, in late Soviet Russia, through his combat experience with the VDV during the 2008 Russo-Georgian War, eventually leading to a raid on a smuggling warehouse in Chelyabinsk in February 2013, where an encounter with a western PMC who quite clearly recognizes Dmitriy by the name "Simon" turns out to be the advent of a string of seemingly random coincidences that happen to now Cpt. Dmitriy Zakhayev, FSB, which occur all the way from the train station back to his house in Pushkin, when he notices the front door is open.
Upon inspection, Dmitriy finds armed men ransacking his house, all of whom apparently recognize him, too, as being "Simon", before Dmitriy kills some of them before causing the others to flee. When the police do arrive, however, they immediately fire upon Dmitriy despite his attempts to surrender, forcing Dmitriy to flee the scene. But when he confronts
To massively oversimplify and leave out the various religious, social, moral, and political issues in modern Russian and world culture that it focuses on, it's about an officer in the FSB, Dmitriy, who gets framed for a terrorist attack by someone called "Simon", and follows the trail in search of the truth while being pursued both by authorities and hired mercenaries, trekking across Europe and eventually to America. (Spoiler: The attacker was really "Dmitriy" all along, he is a product of a failed Soviet military experiment which gave him a rare variation of schizophrenia, and his altered ego and orchestrator of the terror attack, "Simon", had been organizing the mercenaries to let Dmitriy get away by just a little every time, while pushing him westward to Simon's true agenda for Dmitriy...which you'll have to read to find out).
WHAT I'M LOOKING FOR: beta Readers willing to do general or preferably "red ink" revisions as well as be able to provide specific feedback to passages from my story anywhere from 300-700 words in length. I am willing to do Beta-reading and editing of other people's work in return for their help.
