Do I have to recycle the words of the prompt before you understand the subtlety of its inclusion??

I regularly cry over The Book Thief by Markus Zusak (is there anyone who hasn't heard about the movie...I cried over that too, but not in a good way), and A Monster Calls by Patrick Ness. I also have a soft spot for 1984, and recently I loved Ender's Game by Orson Scott Card.
I've always found Dean Koontz interesting - the way he combines the crime thriller with the hint of the supernatural...Do you have any recommendations as to which of his books I should try out?

OMG! Dean Koontz recommendations. OMG! You just opened a can of worms.
From The Corner of His Eye. This is one of my absolute favorite titles.
Odd Thomas. This is actually a whole series. I haven't read the entire series (it's a cash flow thing) but the first book was fantastic, and there's a movie out now, it just hit theaters recently. Directed by the same guy who directed The Mummy.
False Memory. A very dark and twisted psychological thriller.
Dark Rivers of The Heart. AH-MAZING!
Strangers. You MUST read Strangers.
Also fantastic and definitely on the must read list are the following titles.
By The Light of The Moon
Lightning
The Servants of Twilight
One Door Away From Heaven

So nice to finally find somewhere where people are this into books! Can I start a topic for this thread?... silence means yes sooo... Stephen King. Can't get enough of him! Have been reading him since I was (hem, hem) 12...did I say that aloud? Oops haha. Seriously though, his use of imagery and visceral engulfing of the senses just makes me tingle. I think my favourite is Dark Half. No, Carrie. No, Pet Sematary. No,... well, you get where this is going...

I loved Stephen King's The Long Walk. And feel free to start a thread on just him if you want.

I'll try to boil mine down to a top ten.
1. God Bless You Mr. Rosewater by Kurt Vonnegut 2. Kafka on the Shore by Haruki Murakami 3. Pillars of the Earth by Ken Follet 4. The Way of Kings by Brandon Sanderson 5. A Storm of Swords by George R.R. Martin 6. Half of a Yellow Sun by Chimamanda Ngozi Adichie 7. The Things They Carried by Tim O'Brien 8. Short People by Joshua Furst 9. Midnight's Children by Salman Rushdie 10. Do Androids Dream of Electric Sheep? by Philip K. Dick (Gonna go past ten, why not?) 11. A Separate Peace bu John Knowles 12. The Green Mile by Stephen King
If I tried to explain why these books mean so much to me I'll be rambling on for an eternity. But, if I were to get to the core of it, I love these books because they moved me in some way. I know it may seem odd specifying that, since that seems like the most obvious prerequisite for "favorite books", but after spending the last four years in academia I've learned that a lot of people prefer a cold, cerebral narrative to something more emotional. I think they're crazy, but hey, everyone has their own needs.
To continue with Stephen King, though: I like his stuff in general. I'm not huge into horror, but The Dark Tower series is what got me into fantasy, and I obviously love The Green Mile. A nice, slow story that focuses more on small moments and has such a tense build-up.

I loved Jaime Lannister and Brienne of Tarth. The way they both changed in that book, and the bond they formed was totally awesome.
And let's not forget the Red Wedding. OH. MY. GOD.
