As you can tell, this forum has gotten a sort of makeover in regards to boards. Many boards have been lumped together under one topic, and a lot of the 'read before posting' boards have been removed. I also want to shift the focus of this board to make it friendlier for teens.
As you know, I am a young adult author, so teens are my main focus in any of my writings. I think this is a very misunderstood group in society, so this is why I write primarily for them.
There are many writing forums for teens, but they are only for teens. This is fine for teen writers to connect with one another, but probably not the best place to find a writing mentor. Now I'm not sure if a writing mentor is necessary for success, but I had a writing mentor when I was still a teen (19 is technically a teen/adult, a very weird age to be). Without her, I don't think my storytelling skills would be what they are today.
I want this forum to be accessible for everyone. But teens do have their own board now. As you will notice there is a board about adults helping teens. My hope is that adults will go into this board and function as mentors for teens. Even if you as an adult do not believe you are an experienced writer, you still have life experiences you can impart on teens. Life experience has nothing to do with great writing, but it can certainly inspire great writing. So, ultimately, I want adults to be role models for these teens. And my hope is that teens can impart their experiences on to adults as well, especially if they are writing YA literature or are including teens in their writing.
Teens can enjoy the rest of the boards as well.
Teens can join other writing forums accessible to them, but they don't have a place to call their own on these writing forums. For Writing the Stars, I do want them to have a place to call their own. And I hope they learn and grow in this forum, becoming better writers because they help and uplift one another and receive mentoring from adults.
Let's make this forum successful everyone!
